There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, where casino wagering is prohibited. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are supposedly required to pass, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, features one hundred and fifty slots and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that features numerous conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and 88 tables.
