There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall betting is against the law. Eight gambling halls are established in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a 3 to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, highlights 150 one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that contains numerous conveniences accompanying the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
