There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is prohibited. Eight casinos are based in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent area, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and even though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is correct of many border crossings.
The initial Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored barge gambling den, features 150 one armed bandits and sixty table games. The Naga gambling hall is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred one armed bandits and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel building that contains many luxuries aside from the casino, which houses ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and 88 table games.
