There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are ways around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat gambling hall, features 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features numerous luxuries in addition to the gambling hall, which has ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and 88 table games.
